A Plastic Free Planet

May 25, 2018

A Plastic Free Planet has launched the first plastic free mark and the world sees its first plastic free aisle.

Supermarkets can now adopt the Plastic Free Mark, allowing their customers to clearly see if products use plastic in their packaging. This gives customers a choice to be part of the solution to the plastic problem. The UK supermarket chain Iceland was the first to introduce the mark into their stores.

The Dutch supermarket chain Ekoplaza has also introduced the mark and was the first supermarket in the world to introduce a plastic free supermarket aisle. At Ekoplaza, shoppers can choose from over 700 products that have been certified by APP as plastic packaging free.

Siân Sutherland, co-founder of the environmental campaign group A Plastic Free Planet, says the aisle is “a symbol of what the future of food retailing will be” and hopes it has a knock-on effect”.
